IN 1944, SHARAF RASHIDOV TURNED TWENTY-SEVEN. BY THAT TIME HE ALREADY HAD A LOT OF EXPERIENCE: HE HAD WORKED AS A SCHOOL DIRECTOR, EDITOR IN A REGIONAL NEWSPAPER AND EVEN BEEN COMMANDER OF A BATTALION DURING THE WAR.

order of the "Badge of Honour"

Upon completion of the construction of the Farkhad Dam, Sharaf Rashidov was awarded Order of the Badge of Honour and elected secretary of the Samarkand Regional Committee of the Communist Party of Uzbekistan.

In this position, Sharaf Rashidov dealt with personnel issues and proved to be a skilful leader. He preferred not to do business by phone and often went on business trips: as a former journalist, he was always attracted to the epicentre of events – he visited the most important construction sites in Uzbekistan and talked a lot with people of different professions. He loved people and was interested in them, and they reciprocated him. Sharaf Rashidov stood out among the party leaders and endeared himself to ordinary people.
