Sharaf Rashidov often wrote essays about ordinary people. Working for a newspaper as a student, he went all the way from typesetter to executive editor. Since 1938 he was a permanent part of the staff of the Samarkand regional newspaper Lenin Yuli (Lenin's Way). His career began as an executive secretary, but he was soon promoted to deputy editor of the newspaper, and in 1940 was appointed editor. His rapid career growth was possible thanks to his bright journalism and the vividness and boldness of his articles. It was an amazing career and financial rise for a student who had not yet graduated from university. But money was never an end for Sharaf Rashidov.
