SHARAF RASHIDOV ALSO MADE AN IMPORTANT CONTRIBUTION TO THE CULTURAL DEVELOPMENT OF THE COUNTRY.
In 1956, Sharaf Rashidov initiated the opening of Uzbekistan's first television centre in Tashkent, and television broadcasting began to develop in the country.

Also in 1956, the legendary football club Pakhtakor was founded, which in the future became the republican flagship club. An experienced coach, Valentin Bekhtenev, was invited to work with the team from Moscow. He gathered in Pakhtakor the best players from different clubs in Tashkent. Sharaf Rashidov closely followed the fate of the club and supported the athletes. In addition to financial support, he initiated the construction of the Pakhtakor stadium of republican significance accommodating 60,000 spectators.

In 1958, Sharaf Rashidov became one of the initiators and participants of the International Writers' Conference in Tashkent, which was attended by 204 writers from 37 countries in Asia and Africa and 22 guests from 13 countries in Europe, America and Australia. It adopted a declaration outlining an anti-colonial and anti-imperialist programme for writers and established the Association of Writers of Asia and Africa.

Also, in 1958, the first Asian and African Film Festival was held. Sharaf Rashidov, as the head of the Uzbek delegation, brought three hundred books by his compatriots and the best performances by the most titled theatres in Uzbekistan to the Second Uzbek SSR Art and Literature Week, which took place in Moscow in 1959.

SHARAF RASHIDOV ACTIVELY SUPPORTED OUTSTANDING REPRESENTATIVES OF UZBEK ART – HE PATRONISED THE WORLD-FAMOUS PEOPLE'S ARTIST OF THE USSR TAMARA KHANUM, SUPPORTED TALENTED SOVIET WRITERS, AND IN THE LATE 1950S HELD OUT A HELPING HAND TO KONSTANTIN SIMONOV.
